Medical examination for foreigners in Slovakia – what you need to know

When a foreigner comes to Slovakia from a non-EU country and applies for a temporary residence permit, they face several obligations. One of them is the medical examination for foreigners in Slovakia, which is essential not only for the official residence process but also for the protection of public health.

Why is the medical examination mandatory?

According to Slovak law, a foreigner must submit a medical report on their health condition within 30 days of receiving their residence card. If they fail to meet this requirement, it may cause serious problems with the validity of their residence permit.

How does the examination work?

The medical examination is a simple process. It includes a physical check-up and laboratory tests that screen for selected infectious diseases. After the examination, the doctor issues an official medical report, which must be submitted to the Foreign Police Department.

You will need to bring the following items with you:

  • a valid passport

  • a stool sample

  • a urine sample (containers are available in any pharmacy)

Where can the examination be done?
